I've got an 18yr. old college student emailing me with her 'logic' of why Achmadinejad should be allowed to speak today . And her opinion matches what I've seen here with other foolish people . She says the students should be allowed to hear him and decide for themselves as to whether he's a threat or not . CRAZY . This man can waltz-in to our country and say any damn thing he wants -- true or not true . So the danger here is that some students are going to judge him based upon what he says TODAY , and not what he's said and done in the past . . . . Again CRAZY . He could appear 'friendly', accomodating, jovial . . . and some are gonna take that as an example of who he really is , when most of us know it's not .

If these students and their 'professors' had spent some time on recent American history , there'd be no question about who he really is . And now some of them are gonna use TODAY as their only guideline . CRAZY .

What Do You Think ?

NOTE -- He didn't even directly answer questions while doing his CNN interview . How in the world can anyone think he'll answer honestly today ?

Who are you to define Ahmadinejad for anyone else? I’m sure most professors and many students at Columbia are more capable than you of judging him for themselves.

Wow, this coming from a PhD in history and politics, right? You know more than a university? General George S. Patton knew as did Alexander the Great that to know one's enemy is to have the upper hand in defeating said enemy. If Ahmadinejad is allowd to speak we might actually learn something about him. I know the word learn is foreign to many here on YA but it is a legitimate word and something we should all strive to do daily. Universities exist on the premise of a free exchange of ideas. Ultimately the truth about President Ahmadinejad will be revealed. Meanwhile let's sit back and observe what happens and how things unfold. We may discover a man who is at odds with the clerics trying to run his country and that he is trying to be far more diplomatic than they would be. Maybe not. To prejudge someone's speech before it is given is stupid.

Fortunately we have a country where he can "waltz" in and say any damn thing he wants. As head of state for another nation he has certain rights most people do not. Frankly I would opt more for the Patton, Alexander idea and by listening to him try and get more inormation about him so that if we are ever in a situation where we must battle him we will know him better than he knows us.

This only reinforces my belief that most colleges are run by hard core Leftists.

This thug believes Israel should be wiped off the face of the earth. This alone should keep him invited to a major university. But of course free speech Liberal campuses are free to be anti-Semitic and anti-Christian. However, you are not allowed to attack Islam.

And using free speech as the reason he should be allowed to speak is nonsense. The Liberals running Columbia believe George Bush is the bad guy. That's why they invited this world terrorist who has also been supplying bombs and materials that have been used to blow up our soldiers! It's just another in-your-face insult to our president.

Question: Am I allowed to make sure none of my tax money goes to Columbia? Am I being forced to support an institution I'm diametrically opposed to?

Don't worry for the college student will have fun on their college campuses protesting and showing us love while we are serving another 15 month deployment with Iran. I just hope while we are over there in another desert people don't go around crying how they did not see this war coming. I like how people around the world talk so negatively about us but can't help but come here and enjoy our freedoms. Wouldn't just be easier for them to fix their own country then maybe we could stay put.

I think that the college students should be allowed to hear Achmadinejad speak. Sure, they may judge him by what he says today rather than by what he has already said in the past or by what he may say in the future, but it's up to them to do their homework and get as much info about him as possible. If they don't do that, that's their problem and no one else's.

Yep and that student is going to believe he is going to be 100% honest with them.

I love to hear some of the softball questions that he will get today.

I wonder how women would feel if they had to live under the same type of laws they do in Iran.

Or know that protesting him in Iran could cost you your life.

Mean while they think he is far better person because he is supplying weapons that are killing our troops.

What a liberal hero.

If that campus was truly open minded which we know they aren't open minded.
They would let the minuteman speak and allow military on campus.

My Ex wife was nice for one day that tells you nothing about a person. You are right look at his history. He took part in the hostage situation with the US. He has called for the extermination of the jewish race on many occasions oh yeah there was the little incident recently of him taking british salors captive.

for the one that said maybe we should see what he has to say becuase we cant just belive what we have been told about him in the media. For crying out loud I saw footage of him making these statements It wasnt jsut what a journalist told me.

Knowing one's enemy and allowing him on the base are two different things.. It will come back to bite us in the near future you will see.

Oh by the way I hope some of you dont parent with these guidlines. If your neighbor tell you a child molester just moved in across the street and to watch you kids closley would you say "oh no I dont need to watch them I will just go talk to him and see if he is nice today and if he is I will let my kids go there for milk and cookies"

Objecting to having him speak and complaining about those who want to hear him ranks right up there with that episode of The Waltons where the locals complain that John Boy is printing Mein Kampf. Shouldn't we know what our enemies say? Other unpopular leaders have been given a free forum in the USA to speak. This is what makes us different from them--of particular importance now that we condone torture and the line between the democratic and totalitarian forms of government has been blurred.

Wow, after reading some of the posts here, I consider myself fortunate that my 15 yo son has more common sense than most college attendees.

"...I am not defending him at all, just saying that what we are told in America is probably not the 100% truth, about him or anyone else...."
This from a liberal that would believe anything bad said about our own Gov't on CNN.

"....I take it that you did not go to college?...."

What pomposity!! The very reason no one takes a college kids' opinion seriously. If you feel that "going to college" makes you "better" than everyone else, then I suggest you order fries and a shake with that Liberal Arts degree.

".....Who are you to define Ahmadinejad for anyone else? I’m sure most professors and many students at Columbia are more capable than you of judging him for themselves....."

Yes, most ultra-left and 23 year olds have SOOO much life experience.....

"....Academic and intellectual freedom is one of the things that has made America great. We have the best institutions of higher learning in the world and you are only giving people bottom line credit for essentially being dumb. If you think you are smart enough to see the man for whom he really is, aren't some of the smartest students in the world?....."

Explain "academic and intellectual freedom" to a Conservative on campus, taking a liberal Profs class...Smartest Students in the world? But you tell us that getting a "C" at Yale makes you stupid....

He should be allowed to speak. He's just going to show the world how much of a nutcase he is. But Columbia University needs to be fair and allow the armed forces to recruit there also. By saying they are for free speech and allowing Achmadinejad to speak and not army recruiters is hypocrisy on there part.

No, today will be an example to all the Conservatives that write a check to Columbia University every year because they are alumni. Keep that checkbook in your pocket this year and maybe forever. He is a terrorist. We know it. The Liberals are just stupid to think he can be reasoned with at all. This whole episode will come back to haunt us. Speak with your closed checkbooks.
