Well for one, in my opinion, those who criticize rap should realize that the majority of people who go out and buy rap music now are young white males who live in suburbs.

Now i wonder, during the mid 80s/ early 90s, when blacks were the main ones buying rap music, why did the media give up on criticizing rap until the next century....?

Also, Do any of you rock enthusiasts recall the hippie/ rebel movement that was putting Psychedelic rock/ Hard rock into the mainstream during the 60s and 70s, where many of the lyrics centered around extreme liberalism, sex, and indulging in drugs? Do they realize that rock (and the "free love" movement) was at one time hated in the same since that rap is, only that rap has a race factor to some?

Furthermore, understand that many of the most popular rap songs being played on the radio center only around partying and doing a certain dance ("Lean Wit It," "Crank that Soldier boy")

Remember that next time you put on your mommas AC/DC record.

I should also point out that there are many rappers out there that don't have explicit lyrics....Talib Kweli, Common, Mos Def, OutKast, and Kanye West.

i don't care for most of it but respect it as a form of musical art. one of my kids loves it, i just make sure i either buy the censored versions for him or one of the groups that don't lace their songs w/ profanity. G.R.I.T.S. is a good hip hop group w/ christian lyrics that he likes. the haters disgust me, music is music. if you don't like it, listen to something else.

If the lyrics are good then i don't mind rap music.
Oldskool rap was far better however.
I dislike a lot of today's rap not because it's 'rap', but because of the example rappers are setting.
It's NOT okay to be a 'PLAYER' and call girls 'HOES' and take people to the 'CANDY SHOP'
I think it's disgusting.
I'm 15 and i do not want to conform myself to liking that trash.
To be honest a lot of genres of music are slated, take emo music, dance music, metal music etc.
It just so happens rap music tends to be slated more due to the fact most of it today talks about such rubbish!

Elvis was banned from being filmed from the waist down because of his sinful dance moves. I think it is more of a fear and blame issue. I love all music. One day rap will be excepted and some thing completely different will be in it's place.

I still think they should rename it to CRAP

Its hardly music there not singing the lyrics there saying them and there's not even any real instruments. Not to mention there inability to speak proper English, (since when is "yo" a word and I'm going to slap the next idiot that calls me "dawg")and don't get me started on the girls in them video clips would it hurt them to put on a pair of pants once in a while.

Yet kids actually listen to this stuff. Last year my year 7 class had a vote on the play list each Friday and every week we were listening to eminem and snoop dogg. And the teacher actually let a bunch of 12 year olds listen to that inappropriate rubbish. Even i could see it was bad for kids our age to be listening to stuff like that.
