On a scale of 1-10 would you please rate the following pain wise if you went through labor without the assistance of drugs? 10 being the most painful.
1. Contractions
2. Pushing the baby out
3. The episiotomy if you had one
4. Did you tear? If so how painful was that?
5. Soreness after birth
I'd really like to go natural and I'm just trying to get an average on what kind of pain I can expect. Thanks :)

I had four all natural births:
1. Contractions - 5-10 They start out painful and then then really painful. But it was not a pain that I could not handle because I knew that it was going to stop in a few seconds. Until the next one hit.
2. Pushing the baby - 3 This was not painful to me. It was actually a relief.
3. Episiotomy - 5 I only had one with my first child. It healed very quickly and the healing was the worst part because of the itching.
4. I did not tear.
5. Soreness after birth -4. You continue to have a few bothersome contractions after birth. You will have those regardless if you have a natural birth or not.
Good Luck in deciding.

My mom had all three of us natural. She said it was hell and horrid. The hospital she had us in didnt believe in pain drugs. She said if she could go back again she would take the drugs, because its pointless to be in so much pain when there is another option.
I went the first 37 hours of my labor natural. It was like a bad period. HOnestly ive had worse. It was just exhausting.
I didnt tear, i didnt have an episiotomy. They numb you for it anyway, my mom had three, they didnt hurt. And healed in a couple weeks.
I took some advil for the first couple days after, thats all I needed.
After transition I had every drug under the sun. Stadol is nice, but a spinal morphine is best. You can walk around and deliver however you want. And it doesnt effect the baby at all in any way. Theres no reason to be in pain unless you want to be.
The two pushes from crowning until the head is out hurt like freaking holy asshell. You will never have a worse pain ever. But it only lasts a couple minutes. And transition is so horrible, you can even breathe from the pain, the contractions are all on top of eachother. It only lasts 15 minutes tops... although mine lasted 1.5 hours. In all I was in labor 43 1/2 hours.
I set out to go natural, but after nearly two days I was ready for something. No one loves a cowboy. The more relaxed you are the better it is for baby. If you can stay relaxed without meds, go for it!
Have fun, delivery is AWESOME

I think this is a good question, but misdirected..I think the thing you should be thinking about, regardless of the answers here, is how to handle the pain...If you can do some reading, on say the Bradley Method, which I found to be the best, you will be better armed..I have had three natural, no drugs whatsoever births..Bradley works well.. Childbirth is painful..I would say the pushing out part is the easiest because it actually feels good to have it almost done...It's a really awesome feeling..The whole birth is!

i went natural and honestly the pain was a 10
it was hard and painful but at the end seeing my daughter come out ...words cant even explain it. i cant even describe the relife, love and the happiness i experianced!
the pain was gone after i saw her...until they had to sew me up after that is...lol.....i didnt get any drugs for that either...i want ALL natural :)
the contractions were the hardest though but i think sucking on ice chips helped the most (and my hubby)
pushing the baby out wasnt that hard.
i did have an episiotomy but i was actually cut when her head was coming out not before birth when its supposed to happen. they took scissors and cut me...which i felt since i had no drugs...ow!. but that was nothng compared to the contractions and as for sorness after birth i was fine. I had no problem with my first bowel movment and first pee. i was walking around after like nothing happened.
go for natural!!!!! good luck!
