I often wonder what motivated people in life. Apart from earning money, what makes you get through the day at work? For me it's doing a good job and feeling proud of little things I do that makes a difference...and chatting with my friends at work...and spending the sneaky half hour on the internet! Oh and also looking forward to coming home to the gorgeous little house I've just bought, or planning drinks with the girls later!

Loving the responses. I'm a positive happy person, but when you're single and working hard, you can lose track on reality sometimes....I will rememder your comments when it's been a tough day. Thanks guys x

My two beautiful girls! Their bright smiles and their little giggles, they motivate me to do the best I can do for them!

lol -- my coffee is my most immediate goal. I actually get excited to enjoy it.

Other motivations...
when I had a young baby, she would awake with a terrible, heart-stabbing scream, so my motivation was to get her to stop (i.e. pick her up and feed her).

Thinking further, having plans for the day is generally what gets me going -- not just moving from the bed to the sofa or computer, but actually up and out.

Finally, a little secret... once I worked with a very nasty woman, and I knew I would be quitting my job soon. I awoke each morning really excited to see how I could tick her off at work. That went on for two weeks or a month. It's funny to be, because they is so not me to want to annoy people, but this woman had been very nasty to me when I was new and learning and it was finally my turn to not care and take digs at her. The best was at a company party where she was with her husband, I made it my goal to draw her husband away from her by flirting with him, and I was successful. It really made her mad.

Its nice to see someone who has not had the nasty part of politics in big business, where everyone is after your job, once you get there you will know what I mean. life is not a bed of roses, your girlfriends you have now, will not be the ones you will have in the next 10 years!!!! we loose friends and make new ones, your little house will be gone in a few years, as one takes the money and moves on to make more money, the only person you should trust is the person, you see in the mirror every morning. Oh. I have now retired, made loads of money and can sit back and think, thank god I dont have to play the game anymore!!!!!!! hope I did not depress you!!!!!!!!!!

I was a Post Office clerk - and loved the challenges and being with my customers. Now I am a school cook and I love being with the children and seeing them eat the food I make - and come back for seconds.
I think if you have the attitude that work isn't a money making chore, but is part of your day, then it's motivation enough!

First of all the Job.......and secondly to keep my place going if I miss the rent the landlord will kick my *** out of here.

I used to hate getting up early..... but after all I do really enjoy having a long day. Life is too short...I can't afford to fast forward.

And that is how I love getting up early and the rest you already have mention.

The opposite. Why wake up and be miserable? We all like to be happy, so BE it, feel better.
Past and future will not bring happiness, there is only now, so pay attention, look listen, smile hold it, be happy, keep being happy and cheerful...say good morning as though it IS a good morning.
And finally, you may die at any moment, and I assure you, you'd rather go in a good mood

I'm a self employed market trader, I have a great time laughing & joking & having a friendly banter with the other traders.

Despite you saying 'apart from earning money' I've have to be true to myself & say i love the self respect earning my own money gives me. (i have been unemployed & claiming benefits for years until i plucked up enough courage to get out there and work for myself.)

I think waking up and doing a half hour of yoga first thing helps put you in a better mood and keep you in one for the entire day.

It's not easy on those gray, cold days but sunny days do it for me. I don't want to miss the sunshine and the early morning quiet before everyone is up .
