Referring to the graphic on the link below, what do you think the person in the picture is feeling? How do you think a person of a different gender or different ethnicity might react differently to this same situation?

She's scared because it's a man, and she seems to be alone at night. As young girls, we are taught to avoid situations like these. However, the man is in shadow. He could be an 82-year-old grandpa coming home from work. Or, on the opposite end of the spectrum, he could be a serial rapist. Regardless, all we can tell is that he has a penis (all joking aside). If that were a woman of a different ethnicity, she would probably react somewhat the same. Although situations like these may trigger one of those *WATCH OUT* signals in our brains, we have to realize that no judgments can be made about someone who we do not know and can hardly see. While the girl should definitely remain alert and move to a populated area, just seeing a man at night does NOT mean he is going to rape someone (which is clearly what the girl's expression implies).

A woman in a dark alley has just realized that she is being followed by a strange man and she is afraid. I think that anyone of any ethnicity would react the same way, since no one wants to be cornered by a stranger in a dark alley.

Or on the other hand he could be backing away into the shadows because she started screaming because she was startled ,and now hes afraid that people will come running assuming she`s been attacked and they`ll put it down to him.
The only thing you can be certain of, is that people whoever they are are likely to react in a way that's neither rational or predictable

Hi there... you should have not included the pic of the girl in that picture because the girl's picture reflect only fear and nothing else. Notwithstanding the gender nor the ethicity of the person depicted in that situation it wont affect nor change anything, you already have made part in the equation the feeling of fear... how else would they react? laugh?.... silly question.

She`s feeling scared, and I don`t think a different race OR gender would feel any differently in that situation.

I think her legs are shaking and that she had better use that adrenaline rush to run like the devil is chasing her .
Hopefully , anyone alone on a dark street would react with caution and go to a safe , populated place !

The woman in the pic. is terrified, she probably thinks he's gonna attack her, maybe rape her. A man in her place might be able o pull himself together and think, same goes for a strong woman.

Fear of the unknown, fear of fear itself, which is available to all genders and ethnicities, but shown in many different ways. Your question is insightful.
