I tried Yahoo Personals, but never could get signed up. Every time I pushed 'join' it was a blank screen and I never could join it.
I did, however, meet the man of my dreams and it was because we live in such a small town that I was able to meet him.
He was on Yahoo Personals already - I had tried to meet him there. I had seen his picture, read his stuff and wanted to meet him, but as I said we couldn't get together cause I was unable to join. How frustrating - I tried every way I knew how to get word to Yahoo (at that time I had -and still do- very limited experience with computer jargon)
Anyway, I say yes yes yes JOIN!!! I used to get so upset that my daughter living in a college town was meeting guys on the Internet, and she said,"Where else can you meet guys? Would you rather I went in a bar and met them that way? What is the difference - they are STILL strangers but at least with the info on the Internet you can get to know them without being in their presence." That sold me on the whole idea.
When I started looking thru the pictures, etc. there were men of every description with jobs, retired, (and you could kind of tell which ones were 'bums') I was really impressed with all the possibilities of the guys that were wanting to meet up and get to know me. (I could get a 'free icebreaker' but as I said, was unable to join.)
I think it is a wonderful idea. Just be sure when you push the join button you CAN join! Good Luck, and take your time. Do not rush into anything.

Before paying for any sites try the free versions first. Like matchmaker, match.com, yahoo personals.
I paid for Eharmony and also had a free account on matchmaker.
I found no one on Eharmony but my fiance found me on matchmaker where i didn't even pay for the account! Just be careful with online dating; but it can work.

Before you spend any money, try the traditional ways. There is the friends route, as well as family recommendations. The bar scene is just for guys that are looking for sex, not a relationship.

It's up to you. First of all, how old are you? If you feel this is the best venue to take then I see nothing wrong with it.
