Albert has had a leg injury most of the year. and he also has had a minor league team playing with him. When Chris Duncan was the next best offensive player in the first half of the year...your offense will have problems. Albert still had a good year. Please don't get confused think that just because great players put up huge numbers year after year that 30+hr, 100 rbi, 100 runs is not a huge year. You see the same thing happen to A-rod when he doesn't have a MVP season. I am sure that any team will gladly take Puljos (expecailly since he doesn't make 20 mil a season).

He had a great year but he’s not going to hit 40 bombs and 130+ RBIs without a guy in the lineup that can protect him so pitchers can pitch around and let Pujols take his chances with balls out of the zone, which he turns into signals a lot of times and not homers or doubles and he is an auto walk with 1st base open and a runners in scoring position. Also winning the series last year, a poor start and injuries are large factors but still he has some excellent stats

Albert has been playing with slight injuries since last season. Recently, he's had a setback with that very sore calf and that's why he hasn't started the past couple games yet he's still able to pinch hit and has done well in that role (he does well in any role).

Also, the Cardinals have had so many injuries and Pujols hasn't had the protection of a healthy and productive Edmonds and Rolen.

By all means though, he has had a VERY good year. Us fans get spoiled by those numbers and don't realize how hard it is. He is in the top 10 in batting avg., he has at least 30 HRs and probably will reach 100 RBIs. Any team would love that production. Plus, his defense is very good now.

He's set pretty high standards for his own performance.

I look at the Cardinals and he's leading the team in the triple crown numbers (.323, 31 HR, 99 RBI).

I don't think he has to hang his head in shame. If the Cardinals were in contention, those numbers would put him in MVP talk.

1.) He is not a machine
2.) His team didn't do so well, so he had fewer opportunities himself.
3.) If anyone else had the year he had this year, people would be asking, "Is this guy the best hitter in baseball?"
4.) He slumped in the beginning and is injured now.
5.) He may just be, still, the best hitter in the game.

Frizzer's comment says it all. He will still be drafted top 2 in fantasy baseball as well, just because (like Arod in 2006), if this is a DOWN season, what is a rebound season like (like Arod in 2007)

How great is Pujols, right now he is 323-31-99 and we are all wondering what his problem is.

Every player goes through that at least at some point in their careers. even Babe Ruth went through it.
