It's solar powered and has no moving parts so it's very robust. It doesn't have much memory, but it is wi-fi enabled. They'll be on sale in the US for $399 (£198) under a "give one, get one" scheme.
Kofi Annan described the laptop as an "expression of global solidarity" that would "open up new fronts" for children's education.

Yes, I think it is a great idea! Kids in third world countries deserve a break..who knows maybe we would be sending it to the kid who figures out world peace, or cures aids!
The Internet has so many sites that could be useful in helping children learn to garden, raise meat, and grains to live on, knowledge is power..I commend the company doing this!

No I don't think this a priority when children are starving. I give monthly to a Third World Group but they ensure it is used for lasting help like irrigation etc. Get the Third World to western standards and then think about such things as laptops.

Electricricity? Internet? I that child had a choice do you think it would choose the laptop or food/medicine. That child isn't used to what our children are, they're not spoilt for a start. Food or a laptop I think I know what they'd choose

No!! I would rather donate food or clothing. I am not saying that they wouldn't know how to use it but just getting the priorities in focus.

No. I have one, and the companies that make them, can well afford to donate a few to a school, in these countries.
