At issue is a decision to refuse free doughnuts, pies and breads that were being donated to senior centers around 'Putnam County, north of New York City. Officials were concerned that the county was setting a bad nutritional precedent by providing mounds of doughnuts and other sweets to seniors."

What kind of a society is this in your book? In mine it's fascist. If my choice is to go from a hart attack that is my decision to make, Not the decision of some over paid egotistical bureaucrat.

Okay, now that I have vented I can have a good day, thank you.

It is my understanding that the donuts, breads and other treats were donated. By the time you reach a time in your life to be considered a "senior citizen" you have been making your own food choices for decades. I think they should have the option of eating them or not. If you want one great, if not, OK too!

A bunch of idiots making choices for seniors when they are perfectly capable themselves.

I agree with the slogan the seniors had on their placards "Old enough to decide."

I am concerned that some of the breads and pastries were unfit to eat.

I wouldn't want someone to decide for me what I should or should not eat. I try to eat well-balanced meals, but when I want to indulge, I don't want to be handed a bunch of carrot or celery sticks, thank you very much.

I absolutely agree with you. We're not all a bunch of robots that do all the politically correct things all the time. By making these kind of laws and rules, they are taking away our right to choose and not allowing us to make decisions for ourselves. Government should never be that involved with us on such a personal level.

Sometimes you just want what you really, really want. We all can't be health food junkies all the time. It's OK to waver once in a while. But don't tell me what I can and can not eat. Them's fighting words. I think I'm old enough to decide for myself, I'm not 2 years old, and my mother doesn't feed me anymore.
The more they doth protest, the more I rebel.

As a diabetic I can say I don't like it when I get a lot of free stuff that is going to make me sick. But for non-diabetics I would be as outraged as you are. But you know how Big Brother is, always looking out for your welfare. Be grateful and thank him for the free carrot sticks and celery you may be offered next. Count your blessings.

I disagree. The senior center is a private business. They are free to plan the menu at their business.

No one is preventing these people from buying donuts or sharing them with their friends.

I agree with you completely. I am very sick of it. And it will only get worse as we go deeper into socialism in our country.
