I'm 50 years old. I've been invested in the stock market before the DJI30 reached 2,000. I invested in Wal-Mart, IBM, Apple, Microsoft and Home Depot when they became IPO's.
Life's been good. I have no debts, I own my home.
I only work because I need health care to protect my health and wealth.
If Hillary guarantees health care, I'm thinking about quiting work and signing on with her plan.
And since I won't have an income, I would technically be poor, so my health care should be free.
This will give me more time to do those things I've always wanted to at home, and give me more time to see my doctor to get those little things taken care of, those things I don't want to spend my money on.
How many other close to retirement people plan to take advantage of the tax payers charity and quit work as I do?
And do you see any disadvantages to this plan?

Your view on this issue is quite biased. You see things from your own perspective alone with clear disregard for the health and sustainability of our country per se.
The deficit is at an all-time high and a couple more of these high-budget programs would kill our flailing economy. For me, this is going to burden more taxpayers than those who will benefit from it.
just my two cents...

If you think HillaryCare is not a bad thing then let me offer you some of the potential problems with her plan.
First, many believe that homosexuality is a genetic characteristic. As the costs for healthcare for those who live a homosexual lifestyle increase, there may come a time when the government who controls you HillaryCare determines that it is too costly to for people to have a homosexual lifestyle and therefore if you live such a lifestyle, you will have to pay for your own healthcare. Granted, that may seem a little out there, but in England right now, there is a guy who cannot have surgery to correct a botched surgery because the guy smokes. The hospital has refused to fix their screwup until the guy stops smoking. So my little analogy there is not too far off.
But let's continue the analogy. Since the healthcare system can no longer provide coverage for the homosexual community and there is a method for determining if a fetus will grow up to be homosexual, the government willl eventually determine that all potential homosexuals have to be aborted.
And finally, directly to you because of your age. Under Hillarycare, there may come a time when the cost to keep you alive is more than the system can bare; you have basically reached your limit of coverage due to costs because you have been sick. So now you will be told that you will no longer be covered and you have to find coverage on your own. Chances of finding that coverage are slim and none. So you will be left to die on your own suffering.
While these examples are a little bit out there, they are not far off. Has there ever been a government run agency that has come in under budget, been efficient, and/or even reached its goal? And this socialized medicine is just a first step to absolutely destroying this country. You better think about things a little better and more logically.

Don't pack it in yet old man, I'm an old lady and I can tell you that the best you are going to get is accepted by an insurance company who otherwise wouldn't accept you due to age.
Your total wealth is taken into account, not just your wage or salary. A fact you would be savvy enough to know if you had done as well as you claim in the market.
In fifteen years, you will be eligible for Medicare, and if you want to protect your assets, you will need additional insurance.
Here at least, if you become ill and need long term care, the state will take your estate after you die to pay for your care.
My friend across the street lost her childrens inheritance that way. Poor girl had the nerve to get cancer at seventy.
Funny how those who worry so much about keeping their money never remember they could lose it all for their kids.
Wait a while on those little things too. Do you have any idea how painful or difficult some of those tests are? Its not like the old days, when you saw your doctor for every stomach ache, these days you have to fast, go in in the morning and get your stomach pumped full of chalk, and thats just the first round.. In the old days, you got to talk over your problems with someone who was interested, now the insurance company has your doctor on a five minute talk schedule.
So I'm sixty, as is my husband, and hes working a few extra years because he can get full health care coverage if he does.
You better do the same if you can, you told yourself a nice fairytale, but theres no truth in it.

I'm not up on the details of her plan, but is this really true? I would have thought that the contributions required would be based on some combination of income and assets. I might be expecting too much good sense, though.

I think that's a great idea. I may follow your leader on that one myself. I'm 59 and I receive a pension from NY, which includes lifetime BC/BS but, what the heck, I may be able to get the health care part converted to cash. I could join the ranks of the great unwashed and let the rest of the Country pay my way too.

Several holes. You will have an income and you will pay for a HEALTH INSURANCE policy. HEALTH CARE WILL STAY THE SAME AS IT IS! It's sad that you don't know the difference. It's sadder yet that you perpetuate the right wing radio propaganda about what this is all about. It's okay to critque what's been proposed, it's dirty pool to create a strawman argument and campaign against it. That's called fibbin' where I come from....maybe even 'bearing false wittness...supposedly a sin! Give it a think!

Ok, I think that I will join you.
First, I will declare bankruptcy then arrange to be terminated from my job.
I'll collect welfare and drive a new car, not the 14 year old clunker that I have now
Free healthcare with NO co-pay..sounds great.
Free prescriptions! another bonus.
Foodstamps so that I can afford steak and lobster instead of
'past prime' stew beef and imitation soy-based fishlike substance.
And everything at the expense of the government! No one pays, right?
Alright!!!! VOTE HILLARY!

I have no problem with finding a reasonable way to lower health care costs but requiring health insurance and pandering to mega cooperations is not the way to do it.
