I'm having a planned c-section in roughly 13 days, I wanted some advice on how the recovery process went and if anyone was able to breastfeed shortly after the birth?

First of all good luck and congrats! I have had both types of births and both recoveries have there ups and downs. Having a c-section I found the 1st two days to be the worse part of recovery, just getting up for the first time. I think by the time I left the hospital I was already feeling 10x's better than I did right afterwards. You are going to hurt with any movement right away. So just laying there feels OK, but getting up will hurt. Overall the recovery went fairly quickly, I was surpirsed how with every passing day I really did feel better. As far as breastfeeding goes, depending on your hospitals policy on where the baby goes (will it be in recovery with you or do you have to wait). My c-section, the baby went with my husband till I was out of recovery, which was about 1.5hours, and my son nursed right after I was in my room. Either way you should try to nurse when ever you get your new baby in your arms...Good luck!! And try to rest up before the big day!

I've had 3 c sections. 1 emergency, 2 planned and the recovery time is quite long compared to natural birth. Its not intense pain, just a general discomfort and definitely not unbearable. You'll be fine.
Just take it easy, don't lift anything for about 6 weeks - even older children - and ask for help if and when you need it. Its also important to get up and move around as soon as docs say you are able to after birth, cause with my 2nd I was reluctant to move, just laid around alot, and that was my most uncomfortable recovery.
I breastfed within an hour or so of each birth and continued with it for about 18months each baby.
Good luck and don't worry - you'll be too busy enjoying your new baby to notice much pain.

I felt much better after 2 weeks and almost completely normal after 6 weeks. The recovery differs for every person. I must tell you that the first 2 weeks were pretty tough. Breast feeding did not work for me because I was in so much pain the first 2 weeks that my milk was delayed in coming in by 9 days. I ended up having to pump for my daughter for 12 months.

My advice take all the pain meds you need until you feel little or no pain. My problem was the nurses did not tell me I could take two pain pills. They always just gave me one pill at a time.

I had 2 C-sections (one emergency, one planned) and breastfed both babies.

I was told that it's common for C-section babies to be slower to start feeding than babies born naturally because they've not had the stimulus of being squeezed down the birth canal. I think it was a good 12 hours until either of mine was remotely interested in feeding. But once they started, boy did they make up for it!

Recovery process: assuming no problems, out of bed within about 8 hours, home 5 days later (I'd have gone sooner but they wouldn't let me), 6 weeks in the UK until you are allowed to drive. 100% fine within a year (this sounds a lot, but I have friends who had severe tearing from natural births who took longer to recover than that).

My first (emergency) section did not go this smoothly and I lost a lot of blood and had adhesions inside - in fact my surgeon for the second (planned) C-section did some "tidying up" for me and things were so much better second time round!

Good luck!

Both of my sisters had C-Sections and both nursed successfully within an hour of birth. It was more uncomfortable for them but if there is a will there is a way. Take the pain pills and move around as soon as they let you. That is the key to a quick recovery but don't overdo it! Best wishes and I am so happy for your baby that he/she will be given the very best food!

recovery is around the same as natural child birth, i had 2 c-sections. i never took any pain meds except a few tylenol to start.and yes you can breastfeed your baby as soon as they get you to your regular room, after you come from post-op. good luck and best wishes.

Daughter had a beautiful baby girl on monday by c section and she is still very swollen and uncomfortable l week later. but she says it was all worth it and they gave her excellent pain meds that can be taken while breastfeeding. Her baby was able to latch on right after she was cleaned up and is doing great. good luck
