Because the holocaust was the reason used to justify making Israel a Jewish state in 1948 and taking the land from 700,000 Palestinians.
His argument is that yes, Jews were killed, but so were a lot of other people in World War II, and he says that the Jews inflated the numbers in order to get world sympathy for their Zionist cause.
There may have been 4 million, not 6 million killed by Hitler. But the real fact is, Ahmadinejad is just another evil polemicist and hatemonger who picks on relatively minor inaccuracies to discredit the other side.

He didn't actually say that. Much is lost in translation. What he has said is that he questions the validity of the Jews claiming the Holocaust as "their tragedy". Millions were killed in the holocaust, Polish, Gypsies,Russians, yet the Jewish people are the only ones recognized on a large scale as being persecuted by Hitler and the Nazis when in reality Hitler went after many more people.

Beats me because most of the Russians sent to the concentration camps who were not Jews were Muslims. One heck of a lot of Soviets were sent to the concentration camps strictly because they were Muslims. Hilters considered them subhuman right along with the Jews.
So by denying the Hlolcaust he is also denying the numerous Muslims killed in the Nazi death camps.
