Hi! The most important thing is to never never register a domain through your hosting company. They can then use that to blackmail you to stay on their hosting if there is a problem, you want to register a domain and keep control of it, so register a domain at enom.com or godaddy.com and then just update the DNS servers to point to your host. It is easy to do.
For a nice cheap Australian hosting company you might try
