I took a pregnancy test yesterday and at first I looked at it and went, "****, it's negative." But, of course, I couldn't leave it at that, I had to examine it at every angle, under every light, and, lo and behold, I could see something. But what? It didn't exactly seem to be a line. More like a shadow of a line, or possibly where the line is supposed to go if it were a positive test. I took another one this morning: same thing. This is frustrating! I know the "if there's any line at all you're pregnant" rule, but this line is so light I can't even tell if it's a line. For the first five minutes of examination I thought I was seeing things. It darkened up a bit (and by a bit I mean seeable to the blind eye now) as it dried, but after 10 minutes the test is considered invalid. My question is, I "saw" the line, or where it would be, before the 10 minute mark. So is it valid, or is it possible to see where a positive line would be on a negative test (under intense scrutiny)?

P.S. I'm going to get a blood test when my husband gets home from his flight physical. This is really just to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience and whether their test was really positive or negative. I don't want to have false hopes.

Well, I know about evap lines, and I saw this "line" or shadow or whatever while the test was wet, not after it dried. While it got easier to read when it dried, that doesn't mean I didn't see anything while it was wet (obviously or I wouldn't have asked this question to begin with). And it was an e.p.t. I've heard you can get false positives with them, and I don't know if this is what they meant. Hence the blood test.

Well first of all what brand test is it?
Dollar Tree tests are notorious for evap lines. And recently a bad batch of First Response and Answer tests went out where women were getting dark pink lines even when they were not pregnant.
I'd say you should try a digital, they are most accurate and sensative of all the tests (I got a + on one 5 days before my period was due and my HCG the next day was only 20, the tests say they measure at 25). Good luck!

I was exaclty the same!! i had bought 6 tests all getting this faint line and lo and behold im 19 1/2 weeks pregnant lol the reason why it is so faint is that you might be very very early on in pregnancy so your hcg levels are lower but the test is still picking them up !

Try the digital pregnancy tests. That will give you a clear yes or no answer. If it comes back negative, test again with the other test it should come with a few days after. There may be more of the HCG hormone in your system at that time.

if you had to go to that much trouble to see a line its negative what you saw was an evaporation line test again in a few days
