Funny story about that phrase. I never use it, it seems a bit cursed.

A few years ago my fiance and I were headed to work (we worked in the same office,) and our car broke down on the highway. He grumbled and complained and said "well things can't get any worse." I told him not to say that.

After waiting around, getting a ride, and getting our car to the garage, we borrowed his father's van because we had to do a few errands. Went out to the bank, made some transactions, and as we were pulling out of the lot - 20 minutes after we borrowed the van - a car ran a red light and hit us.

He grumbled and complained and said things couldn't get any worse. I told him not to say that, again!

So the cops came and assessed the situation, gave the red light runner a ticket, and then gave my fiance a ticket because of some previous ticketing and registration problems from 10 yrs ago in another state.

He said it again. I became very adamant now about not saying the phrase, because things kept getting worse.

So we drove the van back to his father's home and we looked it over and apologized, etc, and later that evening we drove to the garage to pick up our car and drop off the van so it could be fixed.

And as we were leaving the garage, we realized that we had left a pot on the stove. We rushed back to the house to find smoke billowing out of the kitchen. His father ran in the house and before we could get in, we saw flames through the windows.

Luckily a fire extinguisher put the blaze out, but the house was filled with smoke so badly that they couldn't stay there, had to leave the windows open all night, and then clean up the residue the next day.

And now he never uses that phrase around me anymore. That was the most absurd day ever. One mishap after another.

To be honest and I hope I don't jinx myself, but everything has been good for a long time. In fact the worse thing that has happened would have to be one of my best 360 pals getting deleted and my fella having a fight with her new hubby and then her new hubby vanishing for a bit! *winks*
