Why the heck do they they leave their birthplace in the first instance? Why do some have so much trouble assimilating?

My guess is they are not so warmly welcomed into the new culture, so they stick to the ways and people they know. If a country is making an effort to respect and celebrate cultural diversity, they celebrate as usual. Has anyone ever tried to "package" American culture and say what it is? It's not the same for one group as it is for others. I don't see any efforts to showcase "American culture" so that people can know what it is. Maybe we don't know what it is anymore, since it is such a multifaceted society.

Lack of assimilisation comes when people immigrate to a new country and live in a Little Italy/Lebanon/Greece/China... there is no need for them to assimilate.
