I have a ADSL modem that connects to my PC via a USB cable. I want to go wireless without getting an ADSL Wireless Router/Modem but using my Netgear wireless router(no modem). I have enabled ICS on my pc and when I plug the ethernet cable from it to my laptop, I can access the net from the laptop. However, when I connect the PC to my wireless router, I cannot get onto the internet from my laptop. I can connect to the wireless network but no internet. WHY?

In my laptop LAN settings (in IE),I have enabled it to automatically detect settings. This is the setting it works on when I bypass the router and plug the ethernet cable directly into it from my PC. My router too has been configured to automatically detect settings...

The other thing is that I can access my router's configuration page by typing in www.routerlogin.net on my laptop.this however works for a couple of minutes then stops working. I can't access the settings anymore.just get the 'this page cant be displayed' error.HELP

interesting. I think it is less of a firewall issue. In my previous flat, the very same laptop could connect to the router and get on the net without changes to firewall settings so am thinking i should swap my input to the router from the WAN to one of the other ports. Why on earth would that work?? Anyway, will try it when i get home.

Am not too sure I understand the second response though...will try and get into the routerlogin site and search for this 'quickstart'.

Thanks so far!

It sounds like you have configured the firewall to work correctly using the laptops ethernet port but not with the wireless adapter. Each networking adapter will have seperate firewall settings.

or

When you plug the cable into the router from the PC, dont plug it into the routers WAN (Internet) port. Use one of the ethernet ports.....
