my top 3:
1. Rurouni Kenshin - The story starts with Kenshin meeting Kaoru in Edo (modern-day Tokyo). Kaoru is in pursuit of a man who claims to be the Battousai, and at first believes Kenshin is the man, but after seeing Kenshin's clumsiness and "sakabato" ("reverse blade sword"), she decides he can't possibly be the legendary manslayer. The actual culprit turns out to be a former student of the Kamiya dojo who seeks revenge after being expelled. Kaoru is captured and held captive by the fake Battousai, but Kenshin appears on the scene, reveals that he is the real Battousai, and proceeds to defeat both the fake and his gang without killing any of them. He uses a powerful, ancient style of swordsmanship known as "Hiten Mitsurugi-Ryu." When offered a place at the dojo, Kenshin decides to temporarily stop being a Rurouni and stay at the dojo, starting the first of three manga arcs. (from wiki)
check out the OVAs for sure... better than the anime, I say...
to watch it online, go to youtube or veoh...
to download, go to da-anime.org
2. Wolf's Rain - Wolf's Rain takes place in a post-apocalyptic time when much of the world has been ecologically devastated in a form of fimbulwinter and most people live in poverty. The location is not specified, but many pieces of writing, such as road signs, food labels, and computer monitors, use the cyrillic alphabet. A legend is told in the Book of the Moon that wolves are mystical beings who came to the world from a place called Rakuen (楽園, Rakuen? Paradise), at the dawn of time and will one day find a way to return to paradise. They must first seek out the Flower Maiden (花の少女, Hana no Shōjo?) (a being created from the essence of lunar flowers) to guide them to paradise. This legend is nearly forgotten because wolves were thought to have been hunted to extinction nearly two hundred years earlier. Some wolves, however, have found a way to survive by coexisting with humans and blending into society, using illusions (not shapeshifting, as many have mistakenly thought) to appear human themselves (from wiki)

Hmm, anime with decent dubbing is hard to find nowadays, but here are my top recommendations:
Infinite Ryvius
-Think Lord of the Flies in space. Dubbing probably sucks, but the concept is pretty cool.
Big O
-Batman meets Mazinger Z meet Evangelion. Oh, and it is one of the few animes that I prefer to watch dubbed; they did a fantastic job on the English voiceovers. Also, this is one of the few, if not the only one, to continue an extra season due to positive critical reception of western viewers. Normally, I'd think Japanese studios don't give a damn about western viewers.
Avatar: The Last Airbender
-Not "real anime" but all heresy aside, in my honest opinion, this show is honestly better than most animated shows produced anywhere-Japan, America, Bavaria -whereever. So put aside any elitist notions for the first few episodes (like many others) and see if you like it.
That's all I have for recommendations...

Ergo Proxy Lain Cowboy Bebop ( between the perfect ever) Ghost interior the Shell (the first movie...the sequence is okay, besides the undeniable fact that it kindda drags slightly) Mushishi Requiem for the Phantom Blassreiter perchance...in spite of the actual incontrovertible truth that the badly integrated CG quite were given on my nerves and in spite of the actual incontrovertible truth that Gallery pretend would not extremely slot in right here, i imagine this is an astonishing anime
