i need more room in my van so want to get rid of bulky 4kw generator. I need 4kw to boot up my 1.5kw pressure washer.

The current required from the battery will be 4000 watts / 12V = 333 amps. You will need very large wires to the inverter. Even running current 1500 watts / 12V = 125 amps. Is the alternator in the car capable of supplying this much current to keep the battery charged? I suspect you'll be hard pressed to make this work with the stock alternator. Upgrade the alternator and battery and you may have a chance.
Perhaps you could mount the generator on a trailer hitch carrier to free up space within the van.

You probably could as long as you run the vehicle while using and your alternator can keep up with charging the battery---not sure how much drain those things have on a battery....or get a dual battery setup with one for using the inverter.

I wouldnt trust an inverter to run a power-washer.........
