No, not at all. The trick is to buy HIGH EFFICIENCY air conditioners! :D You can get an 8000BTU Frigidare at Lowes for $160. AND it has a 10.8 EER! :D

I myself run a room air conditioner AND a central air conditioner all summer long, and have YET to get a $200 bill. It's always under that.

There are too many unknowns to answer this question adequately. Have the model # handy and call the mfg or their local representative. They will provide you with an indication of the cost to operate for 1 hour - BUT FOR A NEW UNIT.

yes ur bill will be expensive obviously,... but a/c is must these days...
better to buy 'energy efficient saver' airconditioner if u have not yet bought any a/c
and also look for 'auto-off' feature when the room is sufficient of coolness this reduces the power bill usage by the airconditioner
