When cleaning and lubing your chain do you use chain wax or chain lube(oil)?

Which do you think is better and why?

Since Wax came out, I have always used it. I find it "flings" less and I have less to scrub off my rear wheel.

The lubrication performance must be similar as I havent noticed any drop in chain life.

Its normally down to personal Preference.

I'm old school like jeff.
I use PJ1 Blue Label
It's blue in color, so with just a quick look, I can tell if my chain needs to be lubed by the color (or lack of) the chain.
The manufacturer claims it won't drip of fly off (don't believe everything you read LOL).
I've noticed that chain wax makes as much (rather as little) a mess as PJ1 products.
The blue color is an added bonus.

I use wax because I have a clean custom bike, polished Billet wheels, chrome sprockets etc.
The wax is way cleaner and seems to do the job, but it does not seem to last as long as old fashion chain lube ,so I find myself applying it more frequently.
That is still much easier than cleaning all the crap off my rear wheel.

I use 80W90 gear oil. For 3 reasons:
I run standard chain. No O,X or Y rings. That's what came on the bike.
It's the lube recommended by the bike manufacturer.
I'm a tight fisted son of a _______.

I'm used to dealing with the mess. It gives me a reason to clean the bike.

And there are also most of the reasons for converting the belt drive HD to chain. I prefer it. Customization is the art of making something suit an individual's preference.

I'm old school and use PJ1, yes it's a mess and super sticky but I also maintenance my bikes monthly, street and motocross over the last 10 years. Some of my buddies soak their chains in rear end gear oil, why? just what they like. As for wax it's new and easy to use and clean up is less time consuming, go with what suits ya

I use chain lube because it helps lube the links and helps the links to move freely. in stead of being waxed no real good lube.

I don't use either. Instead I apply a small amount of STP with a brush. It lasts longer than any of the commercial lubes, but dos make a mess.
