The best way to do these is to use a "tree" method for all the numbers. Let's do the first

27
|---|
3 9
| <=== (this line should be under the 9)
3 3

It does not show well here - but you will see the tree method gives you 27 in it''s LOWEST factors as 3x3x3. If you do the same for 45 you get 5x3x3.

Now to find the HIGHEST common fastor - look at the factors and see what they have the most in common. They both have 3x3 so your first answer is 9. The HCF for 27 and 45 is 9.

Let'd do b. 16 broken down using the tree is 2x2x2x2. Now, 56 broken down using the tree is 2x2x2x7. Now look at the factos and see what they have MOST in common for highest common factor. They both have 2x2x2 so your second answer is 8. The HCF for 16 and 56 is 8.

Hope this helps.

HCF-Highets common factor. So u gotta chek for that factor which is both highest and common in both numbers.
a.factors of 27 are:1,3,9,27 and 45 are:1,3,5,9,15,45.
thus HCf is 9.
b.16:1,2,4,8,16. and 56:1,2,4,7,8,14,28,56.
So HCF is 8.
another easy way is :
keep dividing the given numbers individually with the smalest number posible and keeping noting the questiont.
Now note the common factors and multiply them.Here,3*3=9.This givs u HCF.can b usd for large numbers
