is it true that a busted radiator hose is one of your favs. Considering most people do not know the difference between a busted radiator and a busted hose, you tell them the radiator needs to be replaced and charge half a grand for something that costs a hundred?
Am i at least in the ball park?

Sounds like you may have gotten ripped off or you think you did or you just want to accuse shops in general ....have the shop explain what "busted" on the radiator---if the radiator leaks, there will be a white residue around the leaking area and a visible leak when the car is warmed up....if it's clogged, no external evidence will be present but in either case, if they have the radiator repaired or replaced, it should look like a new one as most shops that recore or repair them usually paint them with new black paint for better heat transfer. If they have the work subleted by a radiator shop, have them show you the bill from them. If they claim the radiator was replaced but one of the hoses looks new, then I would suspect foul play. Any dishonest shop can play games and ripoff people if they do not ask questions and look at damages and understand what the problem is which is why you should get three or four repair estimates before proceeding with repairs if possible.
Best to develope a good relationship with a shop you trust to avoid any possible ripoffs which unfortunately do happen. Always ask to see the damage or bad part and ask for the old parts back after repairs are done to keep people honest, even if you don't know what you're looking at.

That's not actually a body shop question. It's a mechanic shop question. Most shops would not do this. Only a dishonest shop would do this. Most shops are not dishonest. And if they were, I think very few would pull something so blatant. It's pretty easy to differentiate between a busted radiator and busted radiator hose.
