Stupid question coming up!lol
My husband and I both have separate bank accounts but we have received a cheque made payable to both of us. Can we still pay it in to either of our solo accounts or do we have to have a joint account?

If it is a joint cheque you can only pay it into a joint account,
unless the cheque is not crossed then either of you can endorse the cheque by signing it on the back to be paid to one of you.
but as I say if it is crossed you will not be able to pay it into a single named account.
the cheque will say on it at the front near the money and payee details if it is crossed.

You can either open a joint account or get the person who wrote you the cheque to write another one. I've tried that before and the bank wouldn't allow it but it's worth asking them directly.

Alot depends on the individual institution's requriments for deposit. Each bank has different policies on depositing/cashing checks. Most of them will take a joint ownership check if both parties are present to endorse the back of the check.

interesting.....Don`t know if it depends were you are, I would have thought if the bank don`t let you pay it in to one or other indavidual account then couldn`t one of you endorse the back of the cheque allowing the other to draw on thier account?
