I've got an lcd moniter. You can answer this question in two different ways; both preferably: in absolute terms, ie in kW, and in percentage terms, ie with respect to power use when screen is on.

Boy, that sentence stretched my command of punctuation

I am not sure what the figures are but I heard Leo Laporte say recently that if you plan to use your computer within 4 hours then do not turn it off... basically saying that spinning up the disk/s when turning on a computer uses as much power as a computer sitting idol for 4 hours with the screen off.
