In 'olden days' in england, captured enemy bowmen had their two fingers that were used to draw the bowstring back-----Amputated by the opposing side .This meant that they would never be able to fire a bow again!. the two finger gesture (that irate road-users now sometimes use) was used by the mediaeval bowmen as a taunt to the opposing side in the posturing before the ensuing battle!.

Winston Churchill, the wartime British Prime Minister, was famous for his V-For-Victory sign made with the forefinger and middle finger.
It is also the same for the Peace sign made by the Flower People of more recent times.
