My girlfriend is usually barefoot and her Mum said that it is not ladylike for her to be letting people see the soles of her feet, especially when they are dirty.
What do others think?
I prefer my girlfriend's feet when they are bare.

I don't think that should be a problem, unless maybe your mom means with 'letting people see the soles of her feet' that she props them up some place, or just that people looking down can see them while she's walking along or has her legs crossed at the ankle? There can be places where it's not ladylike (or good manners for either sex) to put your feet up when the soles are dirty, regardless of whether these are bare soles or shoe soles. Don't prop your feet up on the table or if they're dirty even on chairs, other people have to sit there.
As a side note; there are NO 'no shoes, no shirts, no service' signs in my country, but the national railway company does have a rule prohibiting people from putting their feet up on the seat. Most ticket takers will allow it if you put a paper or your bag on the seat and prop your feet up on that, even that isn't officially allowed.

It is considered un-lady like in some cultures. Women who had bare feet were usually slaves or prostitutes and women who had shoes on were considered ladies because they were able to afford the luxury of shoes.
Nowadays it is quite different, bare feet are considered sexy and some opinions as to ladylike behaviors don't really matter anymore.

According to me grandmother it is unladylike for women to work and not be at home raising children and serving a husband. So that makes many women unladylike.
I believe having bare feet is not unladylike as there is no such think as unladylike anymore. Society has changed and so should your girlfriend's mum. In my opinion.

No, i don't think it is, although it could be if they were very dirty.
I don't think it's lady like to have hard, rough, dirty feet bare but if they're clean, soft and nice then it's very lady like.

Why would it be unladylike? More women go barefoot than men. The soles can be clean or dirty. Dirty soles are a normal part of barefooting on paved surfaces, especially blacktop asphalt, when it's a hotter day. If they are relaxed enough to show their sole and it bothers someone, don't look at it. I think it's impressive enough they are confident enough to show their sole and that's not even getting into what their sole actually looks like (smoother/thicker/leathery vs. harder/tougher).

While it may be ugly to show off dirty feel, it is in no way un-lady like, at least not in this country. I think mama has some issues.
