I have a hp slimline s3100y and i was wondering if its a good idea to put this inside http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127301.

I only have a 160 power supply. I play games occasionally(like WoW) but mainly searching web. Is the 8400gs any good?

Would the 8500gt cause to much power out of the computer? It has an asus mb with intel dual core t2140.

It looks like your 160W power supply is just right for your current PC running on integrated graphics. Adding a video card that draws 20 watts or more could stress your power supply.

8400GS is just an entry level DX10 card that is pretty good when overclocked. It draws up to about 38 watts.

8500GT is bit better and draws up to about 40 watts.

You can try this site to calculate you power requirements - it's fairly thorough - http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine

I was checking on the power requirements for the HP s3020n, which I think has a 160 watt PSU as well and got 185 with an 8400GS (however I've read a post where someone claims to be using it pretty heavily), but found the 7300GS to slide right in at about 160 watts. Of course this is with no other pci cards

How many MB does it have and onboard. Pls. add details to your question.

But judging from what you're saying, it's quite sufficient if you only use the PC often to browse the net as you don't need extraordinary graphic card specs for browsing sites.

i dont know what ur problem is...this vedio card sounds good 2 me,the power dont mean anything to the vedio card...and if u need to add this card to ur pc..then ur pc must be a new computer like pentuim 4 ...otherwise its useless becuse u need a new and strong motherbord..its not the power problem..but if the motherbord can handel this vedio card or not.so its better if u have a new computer.
your talking about old computers..new computers..all have the same power
