I enjoy coin collecting. It doesn't have to cost a lot. I can go to the bank and pick of a box of coin (whichever denomination I'm in the mood for) for exactly face value. A box of pennies is $25, a box of nickels is $100, a box of dimes is $250 and boxes of half dollars or quarters are $500.

Once I get a box, I can go through and pull out the better coins (there are books to help with this or websites). I keep all interesting coins and try to fill holes in my coin book.

The coins that I don't want/need can be returned to the bank and put straight back into my account (though it's often better to return the coins to a different bank (not just a different branch but a different bank) so that I don't end up searching the same boxes over and over). So most of my money goes back and I can then get another box.

Some things to search for: wheat pennies, silver dimes, silver quarters, old coins, error coins, etc. There's always the chance of finding a real treasure!

*Edit* Rosie good point. However there are always the Australian equivalents of our American coinage. Lets see the big pennies with the kangaroo on them - are they still in circulation? Pull things out of your change that you don't see very often. And they do have Australian coin books.

Hehehe Blue T, I can tell you really enjoy your coin collecting hobby, but the Question Asker is Australian and is not going to find wheat pennies or any other of your interesting coins :)

Personally I hate the footy, so I'm not terribly impressed about the amount of cards in your collection. I will admit to being very mildly impressed that one is a hundred years old though :)

I collect blanket badges, a throw back from my girl guide days. I've got over 600, some I earned, some from places I've been, some from places friends have been and some from doing swaps. The killer is that my blanket has holes worn in it, so I'm having to transfer them onto a new one. All handsewn, by the way. When I've got them all on (sometime in the next decade maybe) then yes, I'll think my collection beats yours!!

That's certainly an interesting reason to collect. Don't you enjoy the individual items in your collection?
