my mother

She always makes me feel better and can cheer me up without going overboard doing it. She's encouraging and supportive, and I can't imagine being without her.

You see, I am chronically ill, with some illnesses being more life-threatening than others. Some days, I can barely walk. I had to take Disability at a far younger age than I ever imagined. My mother is retired and has been for many years. We pool our resources to get by. When I despair, she's there to assure me. I wanted to keep working for a couple of decades more. I could set money aside so that she wouldn't have to worry anymore. I would pay all of our bills. Then came the diagnosis I was fearful of hearing but suspected was inevitable. I could have collapsed and tried to give up then, but Mom said we'd make it.

"You and me, Red~haven't we always made it?" she tells me. (BTW: I have auburn hair, which Mom also used to have. It gets a tad confusing when we visit down south and people call her "Red". It's sort of like "Doctor Jones..." "Yes/Yes?")

Mom doesn't use jokes or laughter. She's simply there. When she needs help, I do all I can to support her. But, I know deep down that she is the strong one. She's lasted through so much: being bitten by a rabid dog when she was only 7; surviving a near-fatal auto accident when she was 19; beating cancer twice; surviving at least 20 surgeries; and more.

Yes....always my Creator first. Then it would be my lil ladies. I am their Nona{grandmother}. I always have a good time with them probably because when they start to get on my nerves they can go home with their parents. And my sistah/friends can change my mood.

he's really the best thing that's ever happened to me. whenever we're together we both get so giddy... it's like nothing else matters. :)
