The attitude to have is to assume that a lot of the people asking aren't looking for help. They're looking for validation. They're not looking for answers or enlightenment or new ideas. They're only seeking out people who agree with them. You can kind of figure out who those people are by the way they word their questions. Whenever I post an answer in those, sometimes I actually agree, but when I don't I'll still post and know I will get a lot of thumbs down and, of course, no BA. Don't worry about those. Focus on the ones that actually are looking for answers, not validation to make themselves feel worthy. I've actually been surprised by some of the BA's I got picked for because a lot of times I'm a little blunt here, and lots of times I'm just horsing around answering weird questions. It's amazing what people think of.

I don't even pay attention anymore to the thumbs down or up, the only time I know anything about the thumbs up is the points I get when I get a Best Answer!! Don't let them get to you, that's why they keep doing it because they are getting a reaction out of people!!

Is this bait to thumb me down a lot? Of course people get tired of it. Some gloat about doing it for fun. I do it when people express their opinion as fact and try to push through their morals and give a useless answer instead of replying to the question. I basically refrain from the practice as much as possible, but every once in a while somebody is really of base and it's going to happen.

However, if I hadn't had my answers thumbed down because people voted with their agendas instead of the validity of the answer then I might never have used the button.

If the feature were removed I would be happy. I'd rather have 'ignore' and 'flag' than thumb down. Keep thumbs up.

I agree that no one wants a thumbs down; however, I think it is quite appropriate at times.
For example:
If there is a question about do you like something, And someone goes out of their way no make a hateful or vicious remark about the subject, then yes, they deserve a thumbs down. They could have just as easily skipped over that question, 2 points cannot be THAT important.
And trust me folks, I have no problems putting a thumbs down on folks who deserve it.

i only give them when someone isnt bothering to answer the question and just puts something down like...

this is a stupid question or get life you suck or just be ignorant or plain rude.

something like that i thumbs down...but generally thats all i use it for. if i dont agree with something i just don't. i'm not going to like everything someone posts, but i won't be an *** because i dont like what they say.

Well actually they amuse me....that people have nothing better to do than make people feel crappy about their answer... really what's the point of a thumbs down? You don't get anything from it.

So annoying, I agree. I've given thumbs down, but because they didn't try to answer the question. I also give a lot of thumbs up for answers that aren't just ones that I agree with, but legitimately good answers. Thorough, derived from personal experience, etc.
