Man is on earth for a purpose. The Bible, Bhagavad Gita, Koran, Torah, Avesta....they all say it. Even Kant and Hegel said so to.
The reason it seems so unreal, so inconceivable is because of the fact that when we are born, we are literally thrown into existence, therefore allowing the present to be superfluous rather than fixed. And as Sartre and other stated, Man's purpose is to put meaning into his life in an indifferent world. And when people say that it is all an illusion and the only way out is by dictating that we are to become One with the universe, all that implies is the fact that if you can't beat and understand the universe, the hostile world, join it. I believe Secularism and Judeao-Christian-Islamic counter that extensively and is right on that regard.

Well there's not definite answer for that of course, you had to know that lol. Some people thing the reason we are here on earth is to serve God, or to serve others and be good samaritans and change the world for good. As for the universe coming into being, I believe astronomers are working on that issue. It is proven that the planet has been around for over billions of years, so it probably started out very tiny. Or a part of something incredibly large that floated away. It could all be an illusion, but don't go nuts over it. If you think about this too much and too often you'll get depressed because you'll feel incredibly insignifigant. And that should not be the case for anybody at all.

That's a question everyone has asked at some point in their life :] It's why people look to religion to find meaning, or try to unravel the universe's secrets through science.
I think discovering the answer to that question is why we're here, but the answer will be different for every person so we each have to find it our own way.
But then again, like you said is it just an illusion? How do you know you're not dreaming right now, and we're all figments of your imagination? What if you're old and senile, living in a confused state remembering your past where *this* moment was happening? What if we're dead already, and we're just remembering our lives?

An illusion is a sub-ordinate facet of reality, by definition. So reality could not be an illusion strictly speaking.
You have raised two questions, what is the nature of reality? and How has the universe come into being? see Genesis chapter 1 (biblegateway.com, New King James Version setting)

You are asking questions that have stumped philosophers, religious, and
learned men and women for thousands of years. The same question Dante attempted to answer, in the THE INFERNO,
and Aristotle, the Greek Philosopher, Einstien in E=mc2, and the latest speculators and star gazers who study black holes. Let's face it it is an enegma, a mystery, as yet unsolvable.
Science believes always that it is on the cutting egge, on the cusp of solving
the mystery; cloning, DNA, and the miracle of medical and bio-science offer hope, don't they?
Did the Creator design the universe so that it would remain a mystery or is science Adam's temptress who offers the apple, the secret of life?
Religion is stuck. They can't or are afraid to offer anything new and who has ever heard a religious offer to study anything but antiquities?
Keep asking. We are here for a reason, I believe, even if it is to learn how to live in reasonable harmoney with disperate cultures and personalities.
And say a pray for your fellow travelers; and who knows?

Life doesn't have a meaning at all. If you are not religious and believe in evolution then you will realize we are not so special because there have been hundreds and thousands of life forms before us. We didn't just appear here out of nowhere. We have evolved from a single cell right through to what we are now. But we have been the only ones so far to gain a perspective of their awareness and question what is life and where did they come from etc. This is just because of advances in the brains of humans through evolution. Animals are also life forms but they don't give a rat's booty about the mysteries of life. We are all here because of an accident originally. We weren't all sent to earth with a purpose to fulfil.
This is if you believe the scientific explanation of course. Religion argues the other way.

I get you, I sometimes ask myself the same questions. Not too long ago there was a show about HOW THE EARTH WAS MADE many many millions of years. It kinda confused me. There has to be a God, has to! Why the heck are WE so lucky to be here? The creation of all things on Earth...how can it be that they just happen to be here JUST BECAUSE? This entire subject is so complicated, I can't even begin to talk about it in detail without BLOWING ME AWAY!

Nobody ever has. Those who tried with all their might finally realized that life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved.
You just found yourself here. No idea where you were before. What now? Others have been here and are gone, some are ready to leave, others have just arrived, others must be waiting in line. What is going on here? And all this complexity and diversity and multiplicity - everything all at once: happiness, sorrow, love, injustice,tragedy.........
Such is life. You either go ahead with it or you opt out. Opting out is much more difficult.

Young man : thinking why the gods created us in this world? Why have made us suffer and anguished? What is
the purpose of our existence ?
Asked him philosopher : What makes you say that Young
Young man responded : my father died years ago and now my mother is sick and I am working for her and my little brothers but I know they are suffering. I am thinking in left them to die and me toomust die.
Philosopher : Why not done so ?
Young : I do not know.
philosophers : i will tell you. Because they are your family. You love to you without your income and therefore you won for work that fed siblings and attends medicine for your mother .
Young man : but why gods made us suffering ?
The philosopher : are not you believe that a miracle we are in this life deserves some of the suffering? Want to oust the rights of its value ? Why evidencing to live in the entire perfect world like gods ?
you have the power to fight the weakness you have the health to fight the disease you have the good to fight the evil you have the beauty to fight the Ugliness.
What is better for the human than to lay anything in this world of peace and beauty .
Either live in perfect world This is the death may be gods are deadin thier world and we who are alive with our will and our neighborhoods . the gods did not create this world in vain did not make us a vain.

Well a Christian believes that we were created by God for God in his image and likeness and if we follow God's rules we will have eternal happiness with him someday. An Atheist does not believe in a God responsible for the universe and mankind. So it is up to you to decide which reason are you more likely to accept.I don't know why God did this in the first place but he must have had a reason. It is one of the greatest mysteries of life.
