Why do they call Wednesday hump day, when most people get laid on the weekends?

There are a lot of people who work a STANDARD Work Week (Monday to Friday ...) and with Wednesday being right in the middle of the work week ... this is called the "Hump Day" (for when you finish Wednesday's work day -- you have only two more work days BEFORE the weekend!)

It has nothing to do with any sort of intimate event ...
