b/c I tried: $0.79 lb x 1.2 kg/2.205 lb = 0.429 = $0.43

First, you have to convert your 1.2 kilos into pounds.
1.2 kg x 2.205 lbs. = 2.646 lbs.

After that, multiply 2.646 lbs. with the price of the carrot, which is $0.79.
2.646 lbs x 0.79 = $2.09.

This means that 1.2 kg is $2.09.

Of course it is. You have the conversion backwards. 1 kg =2.2 lb.
1.2 kg = 2.2*1.2 lb = 2.64 lb
Cost = 2.64 * 0.79= whatever.
