I have a 2Wire hooked up to my desktop. When I try to connect to the Internet with the wireless connection from my laptop, it is asking for a network security key or passphrase for the 2Wire. I tried the password I have for my 2Wire, but it's not working. Anyone know what I need to do?????

With 2wire, its easy to read the existing passkey. On the unit label there will be a 10 digit number in side of braces [ ]. This is NOT the same as the routers password! To connect you just enter that number on your computer wireless connector when it asks for it. On newer units this is a WPA connection so your wireless card / laptop needs to support WPA.

If you don't like that one you can make your own, connect with a wired comuter, log in and change the wireless security settings. You can switch to WEP (not very secure) if you computers don't support WPA -- but I would upgrade the computers and keep WPA encryption.

Directions are found at

Have fun!

I'm assuming you are an AT&T DSL customer since you're using a 2WIRE gateway. You need to make those changes while in your "Network at a Glance" control panel. If you cannot find your control panel, you'll need an AT&T tech to give you your "Network at a Glance" or "Access Point Password" address. Make sure to bookmark the page for future reference.

Assuming this is your network, it would have been something you set up yourself. Otherwise, it's a private network and you won't have access to it.
