I own a shop, and here is the real answer; Since the clutch is the link between the engine, and the drive train, it will NOT slow the car when its stepped on. Stepping on the clutch disengages the gearbox, and the differential from the engine. The clutch has no job other than this when its stepped on.

no, when you let go of the clutch while you are in gear, then the car slows down. Stepping on the clutch is just like putting the car in neutral.

actually the clutch is the link between the engine and the transmission that allows us to connect and dis connect power when we want. you can down shift (at safe speeds and rpm ranges) to decelerate. but if you apply the brake with the clutch released, the engine should die, it is a test for clutch condition that you can use.

not really takes the car out if gear. so you will just coast. the car does slow down but because of friction with the road
