the boyfriend and i went to jc penney today to look for engagement ring.we did see one that we liked and the sale was too good to be true!

it's 10K white gold, 3 stone 1/2 CT. T.W diamond ring.
the original price was $996 but they're having a"billion dollar sale" that occurs 2x a year so we get 30% and then additional 15% off and so the price goes down to $195.99 it is very similar to this ring:

read the GIA report that it should come with if they are real diamonds and then take it to a jeweler. You should have a return period so if you find out you don't really like it return it.

And it's only a half carat total weight so that is divided between the three stones.

If you like the ring then get it. If it satisfies what you need and want in an engagement ring then super. If not, look around. Pawn shops are good places, try the nice jewelry stores. I got a much much better diamond when I walked away from the "main" retail chains. However my ring is in a much different price range than yours so I had some more room to be picky.

Look online at ice.com or bluenile.com

Jc Penny artificially raises their prices to discount down later. That is a common tactic in most jewelery stores. What this means is you need to look at what you are getting for your money, not artificial discounting.

Ignoring the mounting there are 50 points of diamonds. $4 dollars a point. Put in 100 dollars for the mounting, $2 a point. That is indicative of I3 K or worse diamonds. (Very poor clarity and yellow diamonds).

There is a point where giving up quality for size is a bad move. For $300 or so you can get a 3 stone 1/4 carat with much better visual quality at a major chain jeweler.

But, there is always a chance there is a diamond in the rough. Non certified jewelery is purchased in massive lots and sometimes really nice diamonds end up in junk lots. Ask to see the diamond under a microscope or jewelers loop. Ask about the return policy. If you decide you like it, take it to another jeweler. They will tell you if it is a nice diamond, or if you purchased a $200 half carat ring (Which will have very yellow diamonds with very poor clarity)

It's kind of a boring ring- why don't u wait and pick out something more unique. For one, it's 10k gold-10k gold isn't worth as much as 14k. (i make jewelry) Also, you should ask what the clarity is of the diamonds. You can find out the clarity chart online by looking up diamond clarity chart. If the diamonds in the ring have poor clarity, they have inclusions and they're not going to sparkle like I'm sure u woud want them to. Hope this helps.

OK personally, I think it's beautiful ... and for 200.00 OMG girl that's a steal ... but are you sure it's 200.00?
You said a similar ring, but not the exact ring ... hmmm I don't know hun, just think about it.
My husband asked me to pick out 10 different rings that like I really liked, and he would make an overall choice.
He ended up getting a ring made for me, it's a 2.88 crt, 14 crt yellow gold, beautiful ring. The center is 2.04 crt just beautiful ... and it wasn't very expensive either ... Good Luck Luv ... I Hope You Get What You Want ... ~wink~

omg that is stunning,BUY it,great price..extremely cheap though so id check if it was real (try break a mirror).

also In the UK the average price for an engagement ring (similar to the one you said) would be around £500-£1000 ($1000-$2000) so that is a real Bargain!!!!!!

i think that's a good price because there are 3 diamonds on it lol. 996 to 195.99 is already a really good discount.

I think you can do better at a pawn shop with a antique engagement ring, frankly.
