Geoff C (below) Dems did not disban the entire Iraqi army. Dems did not lie about smoking guns and mushroom clouds. Dems did not ignore AND replace every general who turned out to be 100% correct. That was ALL Bush.

Ummm greatest military in modern history? I am very proud of our military but after the cuts it suffered in the 90's the armed forces were a shadow of them selves.

rather than having a military capable of handling multi-theater campaigns we were reduced to being just capable enough to handle one theater.

instead of keeping the military generally self sufficient they had to become depended on out side contractors.

Modernized equipment had to be sacrificed and rather than being 20 years ahead technologically we are now closer to 5-10 years ahead.

It has nothing to do with Bush. it has to do with the condition of the forces he was handed when he came in to office. the condition was created By Bill Clinton long before Bush took office.

The only thing that makes us look weaker is the fact a very vocal minority have been screeching at the tops of their lungs that the sky is falling and that we lost moments after we started the fight.

Honestly, what makes us look stronger? a unified front, but whose leaders honestly debates whether going to war was an option? or having screaming idiots having "Die ins" on the steps of the capitol?

if anyone makes the US look weak it is the fools who publicly bast their own country based on their blind hatred of its leader.

I don't think anyone in the world questions our ABILITY TO WAGE WAR. I believe we remain the greatest FIGHTING FORCE in history, as long as we're taking the fight to our enemy. But we are not the same type of OCCUPYING FORCE that was in place at the end of World War II when we had overwhelming numbers to more or less "blanket an arena". And unfortunately, even at the end of the fighting, regardless of how successfully and nobly we've performed as warriors, there is STILL the POLITICAL PROCESS that also must uphold it's end of the deal or the entire effort falls through the floor. What you must do AFTER the fighting is the key to having a sound WAR POLICY and I believe that this has been our IRAQI failure,... besides the fact that we shouldn't have been there.....

Howabout look back during the Clinton years when they were PAYING military members to get out. Plus they added a 15 year retirement package. Plus closing multiple bases.

The Military was weaker than it has been for decades due to Clinton. It is still recovering from that.

Add that to the fact that their are people actively disrespecting and degrading the military discouraging people from joining and you have made the mess bigger.

You should check your facts and Military history before you start throwing blame.

What has made us look weak is the Dems flip flopping back and forth and bogging us down.

Spain is a great example of this. They had troops invilved ETA blew up some of their trains killing hundreds of their people. ETA demanded that spain pull their troops out or more bombings would happen. The goverment refused but elections were coming up and the people of spain elected people who promised to pull the troops out. They got elected and they did as promised and pulled the troops out. Guess what happened after that. ETA Bombed again. Why? they found something else they wanted. They promised more bombing unless they got what they wanted.

Terroist will always want more and appeasement doesnt satify them and it doesnt solve the problem.

you can't reason with unreasonable people.

Look at Bin laden he finds something he doesnt like about you or your country his solution is to kill you. Pakistan's president has just been threatened. The UK, US Spain, Africa, and so on and so on. When is enough enough for you. We have to fight them or it will only get worse. If the rest of the world would not sit by and wait for it to happen to them then it would be a much easier job

I STRONGLY SUPPORT INVASION OF AFGANISTAN AND KICKING OUT THE TALIBAN AND OSAMA.

But IRAQ?
I think Bush is going to go the Nixon way.
Remember Vietnam?
You can beat a few people into submission not the whole country.
And by the way

Where are the WMDs(Weapons of mass Disappearance)?
Perhaps Usa did the right thing in removing Saddam but with all the brains and tech that they have they shud have forseen the mess coming their way.

Russia and China don't appear as if they're impressed too awful much.

They are both engaged in expansions of their militaries.

For example,it is estimated China's navy will be on par with ours by 2020,both in quantity and quality.Russia is beginning production on aircraft that are as capable as the F-22.
China has the capability to destroy every American satellite within minutes.

I could go on,but I'll just make my point, which is this, when all is said and done, history will look back and declare that America was not defeated by any external enemies, but by the incompetence of the neoconservatives, who through their mismanagement and sheer stupidity, emboldened our enemies and discouraged our allies.

The military is not meant to police a nation . Its designed to destroy roads, bridges ,air strips ,railroads ,communications ,and infrastructure including reducing the population in an effort to halt the ability of the enemy to resist .

Why is it every time something fails its because you used the wrong tool in the box for the job . Never send a marine unless he is free to do what marines are trained for and that is killing the enemy . War is a point and shoot situation and not one of going door to door to disarm the locals to prevent resistance . "TO WHAT I HAVE NO CLUE"

Bush has not allowed anything, it is your left side liberals who keep our Troops bogged down in Iraq. The troops are very strong , no matter how hard Congress tries to make them look weak , to try and lose this war. We know who really support the Troops.

We won the war we lost the popularity contest. We are not bogged down, the Iraqi's are US forces are killing insurgents by the droves and they kill like one or two of us per week and thats thru IED's not fire fights. Number's don't lie, we lost about what 3,000+ troops? how many have they lost? We kill or capture about 1,000+ insurgents a month thats x24 more than they have done to us in 6 years.

my whole point on this is that it is not so much that they are bogged down as per say as they are worn down...... the failed policies are just extending the amount of time one person is satying in the hot zone..... whinch in turn burns the morale of the troops and also that of the people.... when morale is low we all look weak because there is no fighting force behind us as a nation.......
