Someone I know claims 3 -$100 bills and a $20 bill were stolen fron her purse. Yet 1-$100 bill was left as she had all her money in the same place. Why would a thief leave the $100 bill? Why not take it all, the culprit took most of it anyway? This story seems suspect to me. But I'd like some other opinions.

I guess we should appreciate that you think us an honest group. Thanks. The situation can't strictly be answered however.
My question back, might be why bother you with the issue, and to what end? Pity? A loan? How close a friend?
Theft is an opportunistic issue, at times not often planned; and almost always screwed up somehow in an attempt. If in fact the thief exists, and did have the opportunity to steal money; why not the purse/ wallet, rather than possibly rifling through whatever else is in a purse, to find money?
With no offense I don't think any opinion matters much; and shouldn't matter to you; unless you're being begged to help fill the purse again. Beyond that I suspect we can't get inside the mind of the person who "allegedly" stole the money.

Ive seen stranger things happen....
I once had occasion to catch a young thief stealing from my coin collection... he wouldnt take all the coins, or paper money, nor would he take the cameras, jewelry, or other valuables laying right next to the collection. I noticed things had gone missing... did an inventory...and a week later, more items were missing. After about 3 times, I finally caught him at it.
I also know of a lady who had dropped some money when getting out of her vehicle while visiting someone at a hospital. She tells the story herself, that she was dead certain someone had lifted over $100 from her purse while she was in the hospital.... a security gaurd walked her to her vehicle after dark, and saw the money laying on the ground under her truck door.
Not knowing you, or the person who's told you their money was stolen, we can't really justify any opinions one way or the other, hehehe... but Ive seen some crazy things

This question sounds suspect and in the wrong section! LOL!
IMHO, she needs help or her kids/hubby/boyfriend needed $320 to buy a new IPhone!
Good luck!

look; why are you questioning this person. you obviously don't trust her or you don't believe her; so why ask us.
if you don't have proof that she islying, is it up to you to judge her. If you don't want to help her out, don't. But don't think she is lying just because someone didn't take all of her money.
geez.

God works mysterious way.
Maybe it was a do-it-yourself thief not a professional.
