.409 career OBP.

Currently 39th all-time, just below Heilmann and Jackie, just above Bagwell and Vaughan.

I don't understand where some people get the "so wrong as to be worthless" notion that Thome (a) only hits home runs and (b) this (hitting homers) is somehow a bad thing. He does more than hit homers -- he walks a ton, and walks are OUTS NOT MADE -- and home runs are, yes indeedy, the single best thing a batter can do. (Has anyone yet trotted out that "no one really knows what it means but it sounds dismissive" adjective, "one dimensional"?) Thome is a better hitter than, say, Reggie Jackson was.

Thome is easily a Hall-caliber player. Wanna see someone else hit 600 homers? He might get there before Griffey does.

And, just a quick look at games played by position:
1B - 1101
3B - 492
DH - 380

Thome hasn't been a primary DH until these last two seasons.

Yes Yes Yes. He completely deserves it. If Gary Carter is in the Hall...Thome should sure as hell be.

No

Being a HOFer has nothing to do with stats, it has to do with being one of the great players of your era... Thome was only good for a few years and rarely led the league in any major offensive category.

No because at least 15 players have more than 500 homeruns now. 600 is the new 500 and Thome won't make it there.

I'm not so sure what his stats are as a first baseman, but i don't see a DH making it solely on hitting homeruns for the most part.

I do like the guy tho, a true class act.

Yes, but it will take a couple of years he wont get in in his first couple of years of eligibility.

definitely
and not just because of his great offense
look at what he's done personally for baseball
he has contributed a lot to things like charities
he's a person to look up to
even though I'm a Cubs fan, I have respect for Thome
he knows how to play the game

I actually thought he was before he hit the 500th HR...

He's top 20 for a career in the following categories:

Slugging % (17th)
OPS (16th)
Walks (19th)
At-Bats per HR (4th)

He's 23rd in HR (503,) and is only 20 away from being 15th.

I think that gets him in.
