Earlier this week, my son had run a slight fever (99.9 was as high as it got at around 11 PM) Since then, he has been fine. However, I have kept him downstairs in his play pen to monitor him during the night. He suddenly started coughing (which he hasn't had this week at all) and he woke for a bit, and his cheeks were pretty red. He isn't running a fever, and doesn't seem to be in any pain (though the coughing has made him wake up a few times, and he just goes right back to sleep.) If he still exhibits these signs in the morning, I will be taking him to the doctor, but as it is almost 2 AM, I can not get my 6 year old out of the bed to haul him to the ER, as I don't see this as being an emergency situation. What does it sound like could be happening? (He has had a history of allergies, and he is 8 months old) Thanks a lot!

Awww...Well I hope he's feeling better by now. Is he teething? My daughter used to have the same symptoms. She also has allergies, but when I took her to the doctor, of course when she was that age, they told me it was that she was teething. Have you given him any motrin to help him with his fever? Best wishes..

Red Cheeks And Cough

My son (13months old) had the same symptoms this week. I took him to the childrens hospital as it was so out of character, didnt seem like just a flu or cold. Red cheeks came out first then a lacy looking rash on his stomach and chest, the diagnosis was parvovirus and we were sent home to keep up the fluids, give paracetamol/nurofen for the pain and he should be fine in a few days but if he is off the fluids then bring him back to hospital. as it turns out its a few days later, he still has a runny nose and a cough but is much better than he was.

The best thing is to take him to the hospital tomorrow morning. Keep an eye on him for the rest of the night. If you have honey and lemon, mix those two together and give him about 2 tablespoons. This will ease the cough and let him sleep. I used to do that with my baby's when they were sick and I saw no need to take them to the hospital. Also make sure he is not near the air conditioner, sometimes this can cause little baby's to cough. I hope that no one is smoking in the house or near him. You sound concerned and a good mom knows when their baby's are not acting normal, Do take the time to take him to the Doctor.

Good luck With your angel hopes he gets better very soon.

Sounds to me like alergies or an ear infection...I wouldn't take him to the ER but if on Monday he is still the same maybe call the Dr. and get him in. Or over the weekend if he starts to run a high feaver like over 102 then I would consider possibly going to the ER. Good luck

Sorry to hear your baby is not so good.

Our six month old son had similar symptoms (persistent cough, but no fever and not such red cheeks) when he was three months. We took him to the doctor who said it was just a cold. Gave us some medicine. He got better very quickly.

Trouble is, his mum got the cold next, and then I got it. Tends to happen like that.

Good luck

If the allergy gets worst the baby could become asphyxiated. This is one of the causes of crib death.

Take your son to the doctor now, before it's too late.

Maybe seasonal allergies, maybe croup. If it's not an emergency don't take him in. Hospitals are not a place for baby to be if it's not a true emergency (so many yucky germs). Good luck.
