oh god -- no bread crumbs for the fish please - - just use any green vegetables you have around -- frozen peas, spinach, cucumbers, lettuce, just cook it until its a little soft and chop it up so it bite sized for your fish.

It depends on what kind of fish it is,as they eat different things. Some are more vegetarian and some are more carnivorous or piscivorous. So,what kind do you have?

Goldfish are omnivores. They will eat both plant and animal matter. You can give them canned peas ( squeeze the insides into the tank),small pieces of ground meat, breadcrumbs, etc.Bear in mind though, that fish food isn't very expensive,it goes a long way,and feeding nothing but household foods will foul the water very quickly, causing an ammonia spike, which will kill the fish. So,better to spend a few dollars on a container of goldfish flakes or pellets.

Flakes or Frozen Fish food is the best regular suorce for the fishes .

I undertsand you are out of budget , BUT all dollar stores carries fish flakes or if not most .

I remember bringing couple of times flakes for like a dollar each.

Low budget shoult not be a good excuse. Constantly feeding vegetables or bread or oat meals or other nice ideas above will make your water dirty and may not be best for your fishes ecpecially when you dont know whether they are vege or omni or pisci.

So get some CHEAP FLAKES. A DOLLAR SHOULD NOT HURT.
