I am going to Richmond for a concert. The concert is at Toad's place. Has anyone been there? How safe is it?

I just want reassurance about going to Richmond. I know it's a city so I just want to know that I will be safe. How safe is it. And anyone who has been to Toad's Place how is the venue? I know it's new but is it a great place to see a show?

Toad's Place is located on Mayo Island. If you can't park on the island, park north of the James River. South of the River looks funky, but it's pretty industrialized and there really aren't that many people in that area. I used to go to outdoor concerts years ago, before it was Toad's Place. It was awesome back then. I haven't gone to the new Toad's Place yet.
