If it's not on, my car gets hot because the fan isn't on so I have to keep the a/c on all the time.

has two fans -one for a/c heat and one for engine heat -you have a bad sensor or a bad fan motor or relay for it --have to be there to know

There are two separate circuits to turn the coolant fan motor on. The one for the AC is working as all that is a switch contact telling the PCM to turn the fan on which it does by grounding the coolant fan relay which supplies power to the fan motor. It is the other input that is not working. The other input for turning the fan motor on is from the temperature sensor on the motor which is a two wire sensor located close to the thermostat housing. The PCM monitors how hot the motor is getting through this and at the set point does the same grounding of the relay. What you will have to do is get the PCM scanned for codes first as this could be setting a code. If it does, repair as nec. Sometimes the sensor or circuit does not set a code though. For this you will have to determine if the sensor is giving good data. Check the sensor data value against what the actual temp of the motor is. Since these sensors are in a corrosive enviroment they tend to degrade to the point that the data is scewed and not accurate anymore.

if your fan does not start when the engine start to heat up. It might be the electrical heat fan switch is bad. the fan will turn off at high speeds but runs when you slow down as in traffic.
It also may be a computer problem. I am not sure on that model how to check the fan switch. you should take it to a mechanic and have it check out, as a switch is cheaper then a burned up motor.

there is a fan relay that is bad. have it changed or do it yourself.. it will be fine.. and don't overheat your car, you will crack a head real fast. you may have done that already, so have it pressure tested, and see if steam comes from the tailpipe when warmed up..
