Relativism IS freedom. There is no freedom under absolutism. No freedom to disagree, no freedom to say "this is not for me," no freedom to say "this is not right." By definition, absolutism states that there is only one right way--only one right morality, only one correct ethical standard for everyone. As such, absolutism constitutes a form of mental dictatorship. Unity is achieved not through persuasion but by coercion and force, and that is a false unity. Only relativism can ensure a climate of freedom, by allowing the different standards and morals best suited for different people, different individuals.
