I don't think you can put a general label on All Americans as being unfriendly since everyone is their own person with their own personality. I do think, however, that people are wrapped up in their own lives, and have forgotten how to just smile or say hi to a stranger upon passing by. It's a shame. As far as superficial, yes, americans truly are. Every commercial & magazine talks about how 'cool' you will look by buying some new fashion trend, car, how you should be wearing you're hair , and how much you weigh, etc. People are judged on how they 'look' nowadays, so everyone wants to 'look' like a celebrity.

Americans are not any worse than anyone else - remember, Americans are ALL immigrants from other lands EXCEPT for the Native American Indian. I can think of a few countries that are VERY superficial, snotty, unfriendly, and totally filthy both in the head AND the body - I'll give you a clue - they REALLY dislike Americans and have the most expensive exclusive perfumes....

When I visited other countries recently, the people that would always start conversations with me would be other Americans. I met some of the friendliest people from Minnesota, Texas, and Pennsylvania. I think Americans are down to earth personally. I did talk to one English man on a train, and he told me himself, "We English are very funny people. You can know us, but still never really know us."

I don't find Americans to be that way. I don't think they're superficial at all. They're some of the most approachable people you will ever meet. In my experience, they are always willing to give a helping hand or some helpful advice if you ask them for it.

Every foreigner I've ever worked with has told me the same thing, that when they first came here, they thought Americans were unfriendly, but once they started know us they found that we really were friendly people.
