I agree he was wonderful. I am a huge fan of Amber. I love Prince Corwin and his son Merlin. He was great, but not my all time favorite. I also love Glen Cook. Have you read the Garrett Files? Pax - C
Sorry but I can't go along with Piers Anthony. I just cannot read those books.

Roger's superb. . . tantalizing
This is what he once said about Roadmarks:
"There's a similarity, in a way, between the 'Amber' books and a book I did called Road-marks, where I played more with time than space. I got the idea for that book during an automobile drive. I was coming up l-25, which is a nice modern highway in New Mexico, and just on a whim, I turned off at random on a turn off I'd never taken before. I drove along it for awhile, and I saw a road which was much less kept up. I turned onto that one, and later on I hit a dirt road and I tried it, and pretty soon I came to a place that wasn't on the map. It was just a little settlement. There were log cabins there, and horses pulling carts, and it looked physically as if I'd driven back into the l9th century. I started to think about the way the road kept changing, and I said, 'Gee, that would be neat, to consider time as a superhighway with different turnoffs.' I went back and started writing Roadmarks that same afternoon.
glad you are a fan of Roger!
Good luck

The story "Divine Madness" is just tremendous--one of the greatest ever. As is "A Rose For Ecclesiastes." In fact, the whole collection The Doors Of His Face, The Lamps Of His Mouth is top-drawer.

I read Zelazny's books quite a few years ago and enjoyed them immensely. I plan on going back and reading them again sometime in the future. The Amber books were quite different and creative.

Top shelf, but not the best. I just got his collected Trump series in one volume and looking forward to finishing it soon.
Best SF has got to be R. Heinlein. He was decades ahead of everyone else (even invented the concept of the waterbed).
Best combo SF/Fantasy writer would be Peirs Anthony.
