If a QB WR RB TE catch a ball behind the line of scrimmage does not cross the line of scrimmage fumbles and the ball does not cross the line of scrimmage the ball can change hands as much as you want it to but once across the line the ball can only be passed/pitched behind the ball carrier now one thing to remember though when the ball is fumbled all players become receivers and there is no down field blockers there for a OL can run a pass pattern for a catch

You can fumble and lateral as many times as you want as long as you're behind the line of scrimmage. Once you cross the line of scrimmage by either running or throwing you can only lateral.
