I own a shop, and a 4.3 Vortec Blazer. Vortec is the design of the intake and the heads. The Vortec heads flow much better, thus makes more power than the standard head configuration. This is why all the guys that builds the race cars go for them heads. Vortec heads flow as well as any aftermarket head at half the cost from the dealer. The design of the Vortec intake is different due in part to the motorized flap called "Manifold Tuning Valve". The manifold tuning valve is controlled by the computer for the purpose of switching the passageway of the air intake charge for optimum torque, and peak horsepower depending on the speed and rpm of the engine. In short the Vortec engine makes more horsepower, and much more torque than the regular throttle body injected 4.3 engines.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

GM found out that if the air and fuel mixture is swirled into the cylinder, there was a performance gain. This swirling of air was what gave the nickname vortec to the engine. There is no supercharger, just a better way of supplying the cylinder with air and fuel. As far as the difference of horsepower, I am not sure but the 4.3 L vortec performs better.

vortec is a different way for the bolts in the heads go. Vortec gives a little more hp but the price to switch to carb or add a supercharger is much more expensive for a vortec.

the difference is vortec has six "injectors" while the standard has two.
there is difference in the cylinder head being that the vortecs flow sightly better.
these systems actually have poppet valves instead of injectors but they serve the purpose of fuel distribution so we will call them injectors for right now.
the vortec is more fuel efficient the loss the person above me noted is due to drive train loss as far a the lower fuel economy between a 4wd and a 2wd.

Hey!
I have a S-10 Chevy Pick Up truck and it has a vortec 4.3 engine too! Basically, that is the size engine they give four wheel drive vehicles like the S-10 or the Blazer. They give the two wheel drive vehicles a lesser engine that is better on gas mileage than our four wheel drive engines. I hope that helps?

no it's not a super charger it's the name of the engine like ford has triton 5.4litre. they are a very tough engine, one of the best in my opinon. i had a 1993 chevy blazer 4-door and i ran it 2-weeks very hard on it with not a drop of oil on the stick. then i poured a gallon of super tech 5w-30 in it and i ran it hard for about one and a half years with no problem. they are very tough along with the 350 vortec.
