Do we gain anything positive by opening up a dialogue with our perceived enemy. I am interested in thoughtful responses and not the knee jerk talking point reactions.

I believe it's a GOOD thing. We as Americans should "hear out" ALL points of view; even those we DON'T agree with. I'm SURE the Iranian President will be on his "Best Behavior" if he speaks at C.U.- but those Students aren't fools. They'll be able to "tell" if they're being given a "snow job" or not. They didn't make it into Columbia- by being idiots! If the guy wants to give an Address & he's invited- shutting him out because we don't like his "politics" -doesn't sound very open minded OR American- to me. A fair "shake" works both ways...

Sometimes, I wonder if I've lived too long. I remember when the Shah of Iran, before he was assassinated, was such a good friend of the USA. Now, I wonder why the President of Iran (I cannot spell his name) is allowed to address our students. Maybe it's exactly what we need...more dialog and diplomacy...instead of threats to nuke Iran. This administration has put us in a terrible position in this world.

how to view this could go both ways. at first most would probably say no & the thought of this man speaking at an American University does sound terrifying but at the same time letting him do this hopefully will make for better relations (politically, economically, etc.) for our countries.

We should not be giving a speaking platform to a monster that states lies like the holocaust is "a myth." He does not tolerate free speach in his country and locks up those who disagree with him. I see no reason to afford him priviledges in the US that he denies to his own countrymen.

this is America why shouldn't he be allowed to speak are we going to hate every nation that doesn't think like us ? this Muslim nation might be the key to ending the hate toward the USA and get us out of Iraq. and also if we could get close ties to Iran theres plenty of oil to buy
